They are an \u003cstrong\u003eoriginal planting\u003c\/strong\u003e by the family who owned the land at the time and although no-one knows exactly when the vines were planted, records show that they’re over \u003cstrong\u003e100 years old\u003c\/strong\u003e! They grow in deep sand over clay, which Grenache vines just love. They’ve had the odd re-work, once in the 1980s when Grenache was out of favour and classic French varieties were seen as the new direction, the bush vines were grafted over to Pinot Noir and trained on to a trellis. It wasn’t a huge success and so in 2005 the current owner, Vincent, decided to do another rework, “We... took it back below the graft and let the beautiful old Grenache stump regenerate a new vine keeping the original established roots and connection to the site”. \u003cstrong\u003eVincent reckons this is the perfect site for Grenache and we agree.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"955\" data-start=\"324\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFor those who want it, here's a bit of technical stuff... Hand picked fruit was destemmed into small open fermenters, with 10% whole bunches included in the ferment. Cool fermentation with gentle hand plunging of the cap followed by basket pressing and maturation for 9 months in neutral French oak hogsheads.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eThe Wine\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1891\" data-start=\"1719\"\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"UTF-8\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe wine itself is dense garnet in colour, which reflects its concentration. It displays complex aromatics of blood plum and boysenberry with a stalky chinotto lift and subtle herbal characters. The palate is quite full and juicy with black cherry and mulberry fruit.
